To most people, no. Moissanite and diamond look remarkably similar to the naked eye, both colourless or near-colourless, both transparent, both genuinely brilliant under light. Trained gemologists using the right equipment can tell them apart. Without that equipment, visual identification isn't reliable, and honestly, it rarely needs to be.
What a trained eye actually notices
Under magnification, moissanite often shows a doubling effect called birefringence. It's a doubly refractive material, meaning light splits into two beams as it passes through, so under a 10x loupe the facet edges and internal reflections appear slightly doubled. Diamond doesn't do this. Moissanite also throws more fire than diamond, since its refractive index is higher and it scatters more colour, a difference that's visible in bright light if you know what to look for. What testing equipment shows
A standard diamond tester measures thermal conductivity, and moissanite conducts heat closely enough to diamond that most basic testers read it incorrectly, or occasionally give a false positive reading it as diamond. A moissanite-specific tester, or a combined thermal and electrical conductivity tester, separates the two reliably. Reputable jewellers carry these.
Does it matter in practice?
For most wearers, not really. The people who see your ring day to day aren't testing it for thermal conductivity. What they notice is that it's beautiful, that it sparkles, and that it sits on a well-made ring. If it matters to you personally, there's no reason to hide that it's moissanite. It's a genuine gemstone with its own documented properties and its own grading system, not a fake diamond standing in for the real thing.
Side by side in direct light
Moissanite tends to throw more coloured flashes than a diamond of the same size and shape, while diamond scatters more white light, the classic "ice" look. In practice, moissanite reads as more vivid in direct sunlight. Whether that's a plus or a minus is entirely personal. Round and oval cuts tend to hide the difference best; step cuts like emerald show it more clearly, since their larger facets reflect more light at once.
