Moissanite was first identified in 1893 by French chemist Henri Moissan, who discovered tiny crystals in fragments of a meteorite that had struck Arizona's Canyon Diablo thousands of years earlier. He initially mistook them for diamond, and it took years of further study to confirm the mineral was something entirely new, silicon carbide, unlike anything previously catalogued. Choosing a Carat Size

A 1ct round moissanite measures roughly 6.5mm across, close enough to a 1ct diamond's diameter that the two are visually indistinguishable at a glance. Because moissanite costs so much less per carat than diamond, most of our buyers size up rather than compromise, a 1.5ct or 2ct centre stone is well within reach of a budget that would only cover a 0.5ct mined diamond of comparable quality.

Moissanite Colour and Clarity, Explained

Every moissanite we set is graded D to F colour and VVS1 clarity or better. D is completely colourless, the highest grade on the scale. F carries the faintest trace of warmth, detectable only side by side against a D or E stone under controlled lighting, never in ordinary wear. VVS1 clarity means any inclusion present is invisible without ten-times magnification, so what you're actually choosing between at this level is a distinction that matters to a gemologist under a loupe far more than it matters to anyone looking at your hand.

This matters practically because it means you're not choosing between "good" and "bad" moissanite, every stone we set already sits at the top of the grading scale.
